Ribbons Policy
Ribbons are given out by the host team at meets, and ribbon policies vary from pool to pool.
LIV's ribbons policy (for home meets):
Individual Race Ribbons | Relay Ribbons | |
8 & U | 1st through 6th place in every heat | 1st and 2nd place only |
9/10s | 1st through 6th place overall + heat winners | 1st and 2nd place only |
11-12 | 1st through 3rd place overall | 1st and 2nd place only |
13+ | No ribbons | No ribbons |
Ribbons are placed in swimmers' family folders (located on the pool deck near the lifeguard office) at some point following each meet (typically a couple days after.)
Popped Times
Every time a swimmer swims a new personal best time (i.e. faster than they've ever swam that stroke at a meet during that season), we say that they "popped" their time. Each popped time earns a swimmer a star on our popped times board. For every 5 popped times, swimmers earn a prize!
Popped times are a great way for swimmers to build a growth mindset, and to celebrate the improvements that hard work and practice can bring!
New in 2025: In addition to our popped times board and prizes for every 5 popped times, our junior coaches will be handing out lollipops for popped times at meets. If you pop your time, please find one of the junior coaches to let them know and they will give you a lollipop.
Sportsmanship/Team Spirit
In addition to rewarding swimming success in the pool, we greatly value, and thus would like to support and reward, sportsmanship and team spirit. Our coaches will be talking about what good sportsmanship looks like and sounds like as well as pointing it out when they see it. Coaches will be identifying swimmers each meet (and even at practice) who are showing sportsmanship and team spirit. These swimmers will receive a coupon in their folders for an extra otter pop on Fridays.
Time Standards
In order to support Goal Setting, and to celebrate the accomplishments of our swimmers, our league (DCSL) has instituted new Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper Time Standards for 2025. You may see these printed on the Heat Sheet and Meet Results.
